Corps Plans to Reduce Operating Hours

photo from usace website

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is beginning to implement reduced levels of service at all of the locks it owns on inland waterways. Vicksburg District Commander Jeff Eckstein says the reduced levels of service are based on the annual amount of commercial tonnage and the annual number of commercial lockages. Colonel Eckstein says any reduction in operating hours on the Red River probably won’t come until next year at the earliest. But he says everybody who uses the Red needs to be aware of those possible changes right now.
