A local man has been arrested by Shreveport Police after neighbors witnessed him breaking into a west Shreveport home.

Just before 10:00 a.m. this morning, Shreveport Police patrol officers responded to a call from a vigilant citizen reporting a burglary in progress at a home in the 500 block of West 74th Street.

Upon arrival, patrol officers discovered that a suspect had broken into a home there and stolen a television set and a video game system. Responding officers attempted to stop a suspect nearby the crime scene but the man fled on foot from officers in an apparent effort to elude capture.

Police chased the suspect to an apartment complex in the 7200 block of Bernstein Avenue where he allegedly kicked open the doors of two apartments there as he attempted to conceal himself from authorities. The suspect, identified as 18 year old Tarodgancy Sumner of the 6500 block of Clift Avenue in Shreveport, was taken into custody near the apartment complex. Sumner has been charged with one count of simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling, two counts of unauthorized entry, and one count of resisting an officer.

Sumner was arrested by Shreveport Police for allegedly burglarizing a home on Bringhurst Drive back in August of 2010 and detectives will be following up on today’s arrest to determine if Sumner is responsible for other similar crimes. Anyone with any information regarding this suspect or any other burglaries is urged to call Shreveport Police detectives at 318-673-6985 or Shreveport-Caddo Parish Crime Stoppers at 318-673-7373.
