Lawmakers are working on several bills to trim the budget and other bills to bring in cash. The latest measure to pass deals with the tax on cigarettes.

The Louisiana House has voted to renew a four-cent portion of the state’s 36-cent per pack cigarette tax that is set to expire in July 2012. A provision was added to the legislation requiring the funds from the renewed tax be used to offset health care costs in the state. The legislation now moves to the Senate. Governor Jindal says he’ll veto it.
