Tonight enjoy a wonderful Christmas experience when talented students from all Bossier Parish high schools unite to present “Countdown to Christmas.” It is taking place at 6:00 p.m. for the public on December 6th, in the Airline High School auditorium. The show will include some new and some traditional holiday songs presented by a Parish Choir, holiday skits written and performed by parish drama students, and art works created by visual art students from these area high schools. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students.

The Bossier Parish Musical began as an idea during the 2003-2004 school year. In June 2004, a group of high school teachers and the secondary supervisor met to explore the possibility of planning and presenting a public musical performance that would showcase music, drama, and visual art students from all high schools in Bossier Parish. The Performing Arts Committee made a decision to pursue funding for a project through a Decentralized Arts Grant administered by the Bossier Arts Council. The grant was awarded, and with additional financial support from the Bossier Parish School System and the Bossier Parish Police Jury, preparations began in September 2004. Many hours of work from dedicated teachers and students, and support from Bossier Parish district administrators and school principals have made this performance possible.

Sponsors of the event are Tom Daniel, Secondary Supervisor for Bossier Parish Curriculum, Grades 9-12, and Mary Glass, Arts and Music Curriculum Coordinator, K-12. Co-directing the event are teachers Jessica Raley from Haughton High School and January Dodson from Benton High. Nikki Hollingsworth from Airline High is the musical director, and Stacy Lombardino from Haughton High is our art director. “Countdown to Christmas” is the eighth production to be mounted by the Bossier Parish Performing Arts Committee.
