Something new runs in conjunction with tomorrow's Chimpanzee Discovery Day at Chimp Haven. It's a Fall Festival, and features all sorts of fun activities, food, live music and ways to give back to the sanctuary.

Education Specialist Angela McLeaf tells KEEL News there are some local news anchors entered in the Celebrity Pie-Eating contest (no, none of them are KEEL anchors...and she didn't name names). There's also a pumpkin-carving contest. You just bring your already-carved pumpkin out and visitors will judge first, second and third places for some neat prizes.

There are even first-of-their-kind Behind-the-Scenes Hayride Tours going on...but McLeaf says those are already sold out. Other activities you can enjoy include a straw maze, pick-your-own-pumpkin patch and face painting.

Chimp Haven has also partnered with Louisiana Nursery to get visitors involved in helping the sanctuary -- by purchasing ornamental plants and fruit trees to donate to Chimp Haven's gardens.

Everything (except the hayrides, which - as I mentioned - are already sold out) is absolutely free! Extended hours for tomorrow, too. Discovery Day usually runs from 9 a.m. until noon...but this weekend, it's open from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Go out and enjoy...and don't forget to take your camera with you! You're sure to see the newest residents roaming about.  If you want the complete events schedule, click HERE.
