With warmer weather right around the corner, Chimp Haven has announced its 2014 Discovery Day Schedule.

The once-a-month events are offered from March-June and again from September-November.  They're held on Saturdays from 9 a.m. until noon with the first one planned for March 8th.  Five of the events this year will be traditional Discovery Days but there will also be a Spring Fling and a Fall Festival.  Those two events will run an additional hour - until 1 p.m.  This year, there will also be a small admission charge -- $6 for adults, $3 for children from 6-12, and free for children 5 and under.

Visitors can gaze across a water-filled moat that separates them from the chimps and watch them go about their daily activities.  They can also interact with Chimp Haven staff for help in identifying the chimpanzees and their behaviors.  But that's just the start of what you can do at Chimp Haven.  For more information about the National Chimpanzee Sanctuary and all of its other activities, like Chimp Chat & Chew, check out the Chimp Haven website.

Chimp Haven is located in the Eddie D. Jones Park off Highway 789 in Keithville, Louisiana, southwest of Shreveport.

The photo is one taken yesterday (02/24/14) by Chimp Haven staff.  It shows "Grandma" -- one of the oldest chimps at the sanctuary -- taking a nap with one of her "babies."
