CenturyLink, a Monroe based company, announced that they will be laying off up to 8 percent of their workforce by the end of the year. The company will offer voluntary severance packages for those that wish to leave on their own terms. A spokesman said the company will help find new jobs for anyone that takes the package. The company currently employs more 40 thousand folks worldwide.

According to a statement from CenturyLink, the decision to layoff employees is to lower costs so they can invest more in product innovation.
