Shreveport and Bossier City officials are ramping up their preparations for the arrival of Isaac here -- probably tomorrow afternoon and evening. Sand bags are being made available to residents of both cities.
Emergency response officials are preparing for the worst and hoping for the best as Tropical Storm Isaac picks up strength in the Gulf of Mexico. There is one shelter already open in the Ark-La-Tex with other locations on standby as needed. We have shelter information as well as volunteer information for you.
All flights in to and out of New Orleans have been cancelled as of Tuesday, August 27 due to Tropical Storm Isaac. Flight cancellations were released by American Airlines, Southwest Airlines and United Airlines.
The City of Shreveport is doing everything possible to prepare for the storm. A news release from the Mayor's Office says Fire, Police, Public Works, and Water and Sewer personnel are standing by to respond to any emergencies.
Issaac is expected to move away from the Florida Keys Sunday night, over the eastern Gulf of Mexico on Monday and approach the northern Gulf Coast on Tuesday. Isaac is expected to become a hurricane late Monday or early Tuesday.
