The voters say 'no' to the bond initiative, titled “Reinvest in Caddo.”

Superintendent Dr. Lamar Goree thanked supporters of the proposal as well as his district team who worked diligently on the proposal.

“This has certainly been a year which has taught me a great deal,” Goree said. “Unfortunately, we were not able to gain the support necessary to advance what we believe is a true opportunity for or children. We will dust ourselves off and reassemble Monday with the confidence that we will continue to work in the best interest of children. That commitment remains unchanged and unwavering.”

While the bond initiative gained unanimous support of the School Board, Board President Steve Riall said he was disappointed the public did not see the merits of the proposal. However, he said he is proud of the work of Goree and his team to present a plan which sought address long-standing needs.

“Dr. Goree did a fantastic job and should be proud of the work he and his staff have done on this proposal,” Riall said. “While this did not turn out as we had hoped, we must respect the vote of the people and move on knowing that we have to continue with our mission of helping kids.”

“Reinvest in Caddo” called for the construction of three new schools as well as upgrades to 23 campuses encompassing science lab renovations, auditoriums, multipurpose centers, wings and auxiliary gyms. The program also would have expanded career and vocational opportunities through the Caddo Career & Technology Center.
