The Caddo Sheriff's Office has received a nearly-$50,000 grant from the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission for increased traffic enforcement.

Sheriff Steve Prator says the funds will be used to provide extra-duty enforcement of DWI, seatbelt, and speed laws through September 30th of next year.  Prator says the funds will provide about 1600 hours of increased patrols and checkpoints.

The Sheriff's Office says that, statewide, alcohol is a factor in over a-third of all fatal crashes and nearly two-thirds of fatal crashes involve lack of restraint use.  Locally, more than half of the fatality crashes worked last year by the Caddo Sheriff's Office involved impairment of some form.
