Caddo Parish “Students of the Year”

Caddo Parish Public Schools

The “Students of the Year” program is sponsored by the Louisiana State Superintendent through the State Department of Education. This program recognizes students from each school who have demonstrated excellent academic achievement, leadership ability and citizenship. The District Students of the Year winners are: Georgia Lynn Hilburn (South Highlands Elementary Magnet), Samantha Hilburn (Caddo Middle Magnet) and Ruth Bishop (Caddo Magnet High School). They will compete at the Regional Competition in Natchitoches, LA in March 2012.

Ruth Bishop (Caddo Magnet High School)

Caddo Public Schools 2012 High School Student of the Year

Ruth Bishop is a National Merit Finalist at Caddo Magnet and is an academic and community leader. With great passion she serves, teaches and leads. A talented young woman, Ruth is an artist, a published poet and an accomplished pianist. Ruth is a member of the Gifted & Talented and the Talented Arts Programs at Magnet; she is one of ten participants in the SMART Program, and has held several class, student government and club offices. Her recent honors include AP Scholar, Independence Bowl Service Scholarship, and Comcast Leaders and Achievers. Ruth is active as a lay minister in her church; and, within the community, Ruth has developed service projects to benefit senior citizens, homeless children, and those with developmental disorders. After medical school, Ruth will become a medical missionary in Central or South America, where she can make a difference in the lives of underserved children in Spanish-speaking countries.

Samantha Hilburn (Caddo Middle Magnet)

Caddo Public Schools 2012 Middle School Student of the Year

Samantha Hilburn, an 8th grade student at Caddo Middle Magnet, has been named the 2011-2012 Middle School Student of the Year for Caddo Parish. She was also a 2008-2009 State finalist representing South Highlands Elementary Magnet School. Samantha and her sisters, Olivia and Georgia, are the daughters of proud parents Jennifer and Cary Hilburn. Samantha is a dedicated, straight-A student, like her sisters, and a gifted leader. She is president of Builders Club at CMM, a member of Student Council, and National Junior Honor Society. She also runs cross country for CMM and is the current IronFish Kids Triathlon Champion for her age division. Samantha is an accomplished pianist and has been invited to perform at numerous events. She has chosen to attend Captain Shreve High School in the fall for its dynamic approach to academics and leadership development.

Georgia Lynn Hilburn (South Highlands Elementary Magnet)

Caddo Public Schools 2012 Elementary School Student of the  Year

Georgia Hilburn, a 5th grade student at South Highlands Elementary Magnet, has been named the 2011-2012 Student of the Year for Caddo Parish. Georgia and her sisters, Olivia and Samantha, are the daughters of proud parents Jennifer and Cary Hilburn. Georgia is a dedicated, straight-A student, like her sisters, and especially enjoys her math and science classes. She is an accomplished athlete, swimming and playing soccer competitively during the past year. She is also the current IronFish Kids Triathlon Champion for her age division and will be representing South Highlands in the regional fitness meet later this year. Georgia is known for her caring ways and willingness to lead or help without hesitation. She also enjoys piano, tennis, reading, and writing. She plans to attend Caddo Middle Magnet in the fall.
