A mid-day fire in Gilliam has claimed the lives of a man and woman.

When firefighters from Caddo Fire District-Seven arrived in the 5400 block of Community Street at about 11:30 this (Monday) morning, they found a two-bedroom mobile home completely engulfed in flames.  It took them about 30 minutes to bring the fire under control and, when they did, they found the bodies of 35-year-old Adonis Walker and his 32-year-old girlfriend, Hanna Hawkins, in the master bedroom.  Two children who also lived in the mobile home were in school at the time.

Though they have not yet pinned down the exact cause of the blaze, investigators from the State Fire Marshal's Office have determined that it started in the bedroom on the opposite end of the home from where the victims were found.  They suspect that electricity supplied to the home by extension cords played a role in the fire.  Investigators say there were no working smoke detectors in use in the home.

The bodies have been released to the Caddo Parish Coroner's Office for autopsies.  The State Fire Marshal's Office and the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office continue to investigate the cause of the fire.
