Not every arrest leads to a life of crime, but even one blemish on your record can travel with you for a long time. Some misdemeanor convictions can keep a person from getting certain jobs, obtaining government issued documents like drivers licences, and even follow them into other court related business like a divorce or lawsuit.

In some cases, these misdemeanors can be expunged from public record, never to be seen again on a criminal background check. Caddo Parish will soon host an Expungement Seminar, detailing how someone can get that second chance at a clean record.

The Caddo Parish Pathway to Prosperity Second Chance Initiative Adult Expungement Summit and Resource Fair will be held on Friday, July 15 from 9am to 1pm at Riverview Hall and Theater in Shreveport, Louisiana. This event is free and open to the public.

Two informational sessions on the expungement process will be offered at 9:00am and 12:00 noon. Forms and paperwork will be provided. Seating will be limited, so participants are encouraged to arrive on time.

“We strongly believe in helping our residents obtain access to a second chance,” said District 7 Commissioner and summit co-chair Stormy Gage-Watts. “The information that we hope to provide will open doors and allow citizens to start that productive career that desire,” said Gage-Watts.

Residents who attend the summit can get more information on how to get misdemeanors removed from the public access. They also can speak with attorneys present and get information on felony expungement. The resource fair will include various organizations and businesses and will take place from 9:00am to 1:00pm.
