More than 40 teachers from the Phillipines were hired by Caddo public schools a couple of years ago to teach in our schools. Caddo Parish was not the only school system in the state to hire the Filipino teachers. But there's been a legal battle going on since they arrived.

A federal jury in Los Angeles has ordered a company to repay $4.5 million to the teachers who were forced to pay large fees to get jobs through a placement agency. The jury finds that the company failed to properly disclose the the fees for the 350 teachers who were recruited for a $40,000-a-year jobs in Louisiana. Many of the teachers were forced to live with several other teachers to make ends meet, since much of their salaries went to the placement agency.
