Caddo Deputy Accidentally Shoots Himself

A Caddo Parish sheriff's deputy shot himself in the leg just before leaving work for the day.  It happened outside Caddo Correctional Center in North Shreveport.

Deputy Larry Trant was putting his gun into the holster after getting out of the parish van. He was about to get in his personal car.   The gun went off, hitting Trant in the thigh.  The bullet exited out of his calf.  He lost a lot of blood but is expected to be ok. No prisoners were nearby when the accidental  shooting happened.  Trant, a retired Shreveport Police Officer, was working with inmates in the work release program.
