Caddo Parish Commissioner Mike Middleton talks with 101.7 / 710 KEEL's Robert J Wright and Erin McCarty about funding for Parish Sheriff's deputies if they begin to assist Shreveport Police with patrols in low crime areas, freeing the SPD to concentrate on the cities high crime neighborhoods.

Middleton tells KEEL listeners that the he is "100% behind" the Commission allocating the fund to pay the deputies to aid SPD, "I did throw out a dollar amount," he says, "I'm asking the city to kick in some money on this, too. It's going to be in the public record. It's going to be $120,000 for four months. And that's just the initial."

Middleton admits that members of the SPD - and possibly city leaders - are balking at the Sheriff Steve Prator's offer: "I'm not sure the city is completely buying in on what the Sheriff is proposing to do." Middleton adds that he had "a short conversation with (SPD Chief) Alan Crump and "I'm not sure he's totally on board."
