The Caddo Commission is considering a new ordinance that would force pet owners to pay a fee and register their animals. The ordinance states that every pet - whether it be a ferret, dog or cat- be registered with Caddo Parish Animal Services.

Owners would then have to pay a registration fee to the parish. Ten dollars for animals that have been spayed or neutered, 20 for those that have not. Owners will also have to have proof of rabies vaccination at all times.

Commissioners say this will create a data base where the animal's information can be pulled by all local vets and animal services members. The file will contain details like the color, birth date of the pet, age, breed, and weight.

The final vote on the measure is scheduled for May 4th.
