A pedestrian who was hit while crossing the road in Keithville early this morning has died.

According to the Caddo Sheriff's Office, 58-year-old Karen Scroggins was crossing from her home in the 12000 block of Mansfield Road to her school bus across the street at 6:30 a.m. to begin her route, when she was hit by a northbound Toyota Tercel.

Scroggins was rushed to University Health, where she later died. No charges have been filed in the accident, which remains under investigation by the Caddo Sheriff's Traffic Safety Unit.

Caddo Parish Schools has released the following about Ms. Scroggins' passing:

It is with heavy hearts we grieve the loss of a beloved Caddo employee. Below you will find a statement from the district on Ms. Karen Scroggins who served as a high school magnet driver. She has been employed with the district since September 2002.

“Ms. Scroggins has served our community as a veteran bus driver with 14 years of dedicated service to students and their utmost safety. This morning, like so many before it, Ms. Scroggins began the day eager to greet her students and safely transport them to Caddo Parish Magnet High School and Caddo Career & Technology Center. The district mourns the loss of Ms. Scroggins while fondly remembering with great gratitude her unwavering commitment to the students for which she deeply cared. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, friends and her Caddo Schools family.”
