Bugs Bunny, the most famous character of the Warner Brothers cartoon empire, made his first screen appearance on this day in 1940.

Bugs officially debuted in “A Wild Hare,” a Merrie Melodies 'toon voiced by the legendary Mel Blanc.

Warner Brothers is currently working on a crop of new episodes featuring Bugs Bunny and other legendary characters to air on the WB Boomerang network.
