It's pretty widely known after all of the years I've been on air here in Shreveport/Bossier City that I'm the crazy horse lady on the radio. Keith and I live on a farm alongside my mother and we're known for taking in transients. And by transients, I mean animals that have decided they like living with us better than wherever they were before.

All of our dogs between both houses, with the exception of one, which was a gift, are rescues. Our indoor cats are the result of one of our family members having a cat with loose morals. With that being said, we've played host to wide assortment of wild life, like wild pigs, bunnies, kitties, skunks and even a chicken, whom we've name Henny Penny.

We're pretty sure Henny Penny came from our neighbors from down the road. Not only has she decided hanging out at our place is advantageous, the pay is better, too! Why? She likes cat food better than oats and other chicken feed. Yes, she literally eats Meow Mix...to our sweet Carolina kitty's chagrin!

Carolina is a solid black cat, yet another transient, who we thought looked kinda of like a panther... Hence, Carolina. Cats and hens should really co-exist when you think about. In fact, you'd think the cat would run the chicken off. Not so! They've turned into companion animals and they follow my mother everywhere!

Seriously, Carolina and Henny Penny are her shadows. They follow her when she feeds the horses and totes stuff out to the field, etc... They also come running when it's time to eat!

First, it's funny to watch a hen run period. Second, it's funny to watch a chicken to tell a cat to back off. My mom has been having to feed poor Carolina out front by the garage to make sure she eats!

The animals around our farm make us shake our heads daily. Kind of like when the rabbits wait for us to put out the alfalfa for the horses so they can get first dibs! Or when our 20-year-old Palomino was playing a game of chase with wild hogs. That sure was something to see!

Each and every day, I see something else on our little piece of paradise that makes me smile! Like our daily egg from Henny Penny in the hay!
