NBC News has suspended Brian Williams from his duties as chief anchor and managing editor of “NBC Nightly News” for six months without pay in the wake of a scandal over misleading statements he made about his time covering the Iraq War in 2003.

We wonder if Williams will ever return to the anchor desk. The suspensions comes after the furor over Williams’ embellishments claiming he faced enemy fire while riding in a helicopter in 2003. His account was challenged by Iraq veterans. Lester Holt will continue as substitute anchor.

NBC News is conducting a full investigation. Williams makes $10 million a year, so this will cost him $5 million a year.
