*PRESS RELEASE*

Bossier Parish Community College’s Chancellor Dr. Rick Bateman, Jr. recently was appointed to serve on the Commission on Economic and Workforce Development for the American Association of Community College’s (AACC), Washington, DC.

In the appointment letter, AACC President and CEO Dr. Walter G Bumphus wrote, “We are sure that your insights and leadership will significantly contribute to the Board’s decision-making process and its ability to serve the interests of all AACC member institutions.”

Bateman is honored to be selected to one of the AACC’s six commissions.

“It is a distinct honor to be appointed to the AACC Commission on Economic and Workforce Development and I look forward to working closely with my fellow commissioners to develop new and innovative strategies and solutions to address some of our country's most pressing workforce concerns," says Bateman.

Authorized by the AACC Board, the six Commissions include:
· Commission on Academic, Student and Community Development
· Commission on Communications and Marketing
· Commission on Diversity, Inclusion and Equity
· Commission on Economic and Workforce Development
· Commission on Global Education
· Commission on Research, Technology and Emerging Trends

Each commission consists of an average of 24 people from member institutions who are CEOs or administrators, plus additional people from organizations who work in areas that are relevant to that commissions' specific charges. They were established to accomplish the following:
· provide advice to the AACC Board and staff;
· encourage collaboration among community college entities and organizations;
· provide a forum for focused conversation about the important community college issues and priorities of the day;
· provide for increased involvement in the Association by AACC member CEOs and other professional staff; and
· provide leadership opportunities for members of the AACC Board of Directors (who serve as Chairs).

The American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) is the primary advocacy organization for the nation’s community colleges. The association represents nearly 1,200 two-year, associate degree–granting institutions and more than 13 million students.
