Bossier Sheriff Julian Whittington is opening up the sheriff's office rifle range to the public on three weekends in September so hunters can sight in their rifles.

The range at 2955 Old Plain Dealing Road will be open September 3, 10 and 17 from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. each day. It features 12 shooting lanes with targets at 100, 200, 300 and 400 yards.

Basic targets will be available, but shooters can bring their own paper targest. Visitors will need to bring their own weapons and ammunition. If you have your own hearing and eye protection, you should bring that, too, but it will be available at the range.

"I am pleased to offer this service to our residents so they can sight in their rifles at our range in a safe environment, especially as we approach hunting season," Sheriff Whittington said.

The Rifle Range is located near the Bossier Parish Sheriff's Office Training Academy, about 12 miles from the town of Benton.

You don't need to register to use the range. If you have any questions, you can call the academy at 965-3525.
