If you've received one of these calls, hopefully you hung up fast!

The Bossier City Police Department wants the public to be aware of a scam that’s been ringing the phones of many Bossier City residents lately.

The Bossier City police have been made aware of a scam that involves automated phone calls claiming that the Internal Revenue Service has filed a lawsuit against them and to call a telephone number for more information. But detectives say that it’s a scam and advise anyone who receives these calls not to call back.

Most of these types of scams typically are designed to scare people into calling the number which usually connects to theives in a foreign country who ask for personal information like social security numbers, bank account information and other personal data.

The Bossier City police department recommends that anyone who receives this type of call to disregard it and to advise friends and family members, particularly the elderly, to do the same.

Remember - if you receive this call, DO NOT call the number given in the recording.
