Voters ok the millage renewal for the Biomedical Research Foundation 54-46%.

Biomed is the fourth largest employer in Caddo Parish accounting for nearly 7,000 jobs in the parish. The complex and has an economic impact of $835 million on the local economy each year. This tax was set to expire in 2017, but this vote extends the tax until 2038.

The BRF's mission is to diversify the region by promoting and developing a knowledge-based economy in northwest Louisiana. The BRF strives to generate public support and collaboration in technology-based economic development strategies, to provide infrastructure and resources to new or growing companies, and to support research at LSU Health Shreveport that may lead to marketable discoveries. In addition, the BRF promotes the development of our region's future creative workforce skilled in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) disciplines by raising private and public funds and assisting with project development for K-12 programs.

Voters Overwhelmingly said no to the property tax measure.

The proposition failed in a 47% to 53% vote, according to complete but unofficial returns.

The school system won't close six schools and build new ones, add classroom wings at other campuses and improve science labs at every high school.
