I don't know about you, but I'm a HUGE music fan. I literally couldn't imagine living life without it. From Chuck Berry to Johnny Cash, Jack White to RL Burnside, I couldn't even begin to tell you how important and impactful music has been on my life. And, since music is such a huge part of my life, I obviously have a HUGE music collection. I literally have thousands of CDs, records and tapes in my collection.

As Jack White once said, "Vinyl is the real deal. I've always felt like, until you buy the vinyl record, you don't really own the album." And I'd have to agree with that. There's just something about vinyl that is special. Its an immersive experience between you and the music. There's no skipping to the single. You have to listen to every song.

Now, whether you're like me and are an avid music fan or your someone who is interested in starting a collection, you need somewhere to get your hands on all this great music. And while places online like Amazon, Third Man Records and Sound of Vinyl are great places to shop, NOTHING beats actually going into a brick and mortar store, looking around and listening to records you wouldn't normally check out.

Luckily for us, there are several great record stores in Shreveport/Bossier.

This is the newest music shop in town and I absolutely love it. These guys have a large selection of used vinyl records and CDs. Plus a large array of new music as well. While they specialize in Blues and Classic Rock, if you look around they have a little bit of everything including local artists. Plus, if you're just starting out, they have a large selection of new and used turntables, speakers and everything you need to get started.

This place is absolutely amazing. DOB has a MASSIVE collection of mostly used records. They do have so new stuff, but the majority is pre-loved, which is perfect because that means you can buy more. Plus, they have probably the most diverse selection of records in the area - whether you're looking for John Lee Hooker, Tom Waits or Widespread Panic, Day Old Blues has you covered.

3) Antique Marketplace - 102 E Kings Highway

While this isn't a record store per se, they do have a large collection of records. I can't tell you how many hard to find and records I've dug out of the backroom. If you have time to kill, this is a great place to go.

4) 2nd and Charles - 2001 Airline Drive

While I'm not the biggest fan of big box stores, 2nd and Charles isn't too bad. They have a large selection of turntables, vinyl records and accessories. While their selection isn't the biggest or most diverse, this is a good place to start if you're looking for the essentials or are new to the record collecting game.
