Louisiana's District 4 BESE member Tony Davis talks with 101.7 / 710 KEEL's Robert J Wright and Erin McCarty about the 2018-19 school year, the state's education goals and how BESE is assisting Caddo Parish schools.

Davis, from Natchitoches, mentions "a lot of things that are new" for the beginning of the school year. "A lot of things that are online," he says, bringing up the BESE site louisianabelieves.com. Davis mentions the availability of the 2018 school guide, which he says will give parents, not only a calendar for the academic year, but guidelines for expectations for learning."

Davis also discusses the two "failing" Caddo parish schools, Atkins and Queensborough elementaries, saying that he would rather the state assist the parish and local educators in improving the schools, thereby leaving the schools in the hands of local educators.
