Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries agents are investigating the shooting of a bald eagle north of Farmerville in Union Parish. A motorist traveling on Highway 15 spotted the bird walking beside the road with an injured wing. Agents were able to capture the eagle and take it to the Wildlife Hospital at the LSU Veterinary Medicine School. There, it was determined that the bird had been shot in the right wing. The tip of that wing had to be amputated, so the bird will never fly again. Instead, it will be placed in a zoo or other wildlife sanctuary. If you have any information that can help agents in their investigation, you can call the Operation Gamethief hotline (1-800-442-2511) or use LDFS's tip411 program.
