Hurricane Season Officially kicks off today (6/1/14), and state officials are urging Louisianans to put their game plan in place now.

CBS News reports that federal forecasters are expecting a slower-than-usual Atlantic hurricane season, with eight to 13 tropical storms and three to six hurricanes. There's no way to tell whether any of those potential storms will strike the U.S. coastline during the six-month season that starts today.

Kevin Davis, Director of the Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, recommends visiting the website getagameplan.org to help learn valuable information should a storm hit.

As Shreveport-Bossier citizens remember too well, the 2005 hurricane season produced Hurricane Katrina, and it stands as the most active Atlantic hurricane season on record.
