The Bossier Sheriff's Office conducted a sobriety checkpoint late last night into early this morning in the 5600 block of Barksdale Boulevard.

Deputies, Bossier City police officers and Louisiana State Police troopers checked 255 vehicles, made one DWI arrest and handed out 12 citations for various traffic offenses.

The checkpoint was made possible through a more-than-$14,000 grant from the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission. The purpose was to identify impaired drivers and remover them from the road before they could cause injury or death to themselves or others.

"Compliance with Louisiana driving laws is our ultimate goal in order to keep everyone safe on the road," said Bossier Parish Sheriff Julian Whittington.
