Armed suspect fires on officers in East Texas. Agents return fire, killing the suspect. Here's the report from the Associated Press:

NACOGDOCHES, Texas (AP) — East Texas law officers have fatally shot an armed man after he fired at them during an assault investigation.

The Texas Department of Public Safety says the suspect died Tuesday at a Nacogdoches (na-kuh-DOH'-chihs) hospital. No officers were hurt.

A DPS trooper and a Nacogdoches County sheriff's deputy on Monday night responded to a report of an assault and located the suspect riding a motorcycle. A DPS statement says the suspect refused to stop and officers chased the man to his home.

The suspect went inside, grabbed a shotgun and fired at officers. Authorities say the suspect then went back into the home and retrieved a rifle. The suspect refused to drop the weapon and was shot by officers when he pointed the gun at them.

Further details weren't immediately available.
