Why Erin McCarty Is Looking Forward to Ark-La-Tex’s Original Gun Show

You've probably heard me talk about learning gun skills and safety. Last year, I wasn't familiar with guns, and honestly, was a little scared to handle them. But since my sons are grown, I wanted to buy a gun for extra protection and get enough training and practice that I can be confident using it.

I took a couple of classes and got some practice in before settling on a .380 Smith and Wesson. I'm working on getting my concealed carry license, but not only do I feel comfortable handling pistols and rifles, but I'm really looking forward to The Original Gun & Knife Show hosted by Ark-La-Tex Gun Collectors. I've been to their shows before, but now I have the knowledge to really talk with vendors and understand their products.

Proceeds from the show are donated to area police and sheriff's departments, and the show itself is full of opportunities to buy/sell/trade guns, knives, survival and prepper supplies and all the associated gear. You can find a large assortment of unique guns, antique guns and the latest and greatest offering from the big brands.

My personal goal is to shop for ammunition and a purse-style carrying case for my pistol. I'm always interested in learning about different and new gun safes and other methods of safely storing weapons. I know this is a family friendly event (kids are welcome!) and they have a few special presentations planned for that weekend.
