[ORIGINAL STORY]  Area colleges and universities gather with area employers this weekend -- for the 5th annual ARK-LA-TEX College Career Fair. It's open to all college students and alumni from any accredited higher education institution in the United States. Over the past four years, the fair has drawn an average of 500 students and alumni interested in full- and part-time jobs, volunteer opportunities, internships and graduate school programs.

Participating schools are Bossier parish Community College, Centenary College, Grambling State University, Kilgore College, LeTourneau University (in Longview, TX), Louisiana Tech, Louisiana State University-Shreveport, Northwestern State University (in Natchitoches), Southern University-Shreveport, and University of Texas-Tyler.

BPCC's Kathy Busch says there are a couple of requirements if you want to go. First, you'll need to be dressed to impress. "We do kind of play Fashion Police at the door. We want that professional workforce," she says. "We discourage blue jeans and flip-flops and shorts. We've turned all of those away. We've turned away bib overalls...we've turned away some pretty crazy stuff. High, high heels and purple hair...it's just not professional-looking."

Second, you need to bring a resume with you. But...what if you don't have a lot of job experience? "You can fill up a resume with volunteer opportunities, school activities, that's always a good one," Busch says. "Even classes that they're in, they could create a resume and talk about the relevant classes or a student project that they've done. That would help them there."

The Career Fair runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Bossier Civic Center.
