A local man is behind bars while his victim is recovering from a gunshot wound following an early-morning shooting in North Shreveport.

Shortly after 2:30AM, Shreveport patrol officers responded to a reported shooting in the 1700 block of Legardy Street. When they got there, officers located a crime scene and discovered the victim, identified as 25-year-old Edward D. Lattin, had been taken to Willis-Knighton Medical Center in the 2600 block of Greenwood Road in a private auto. Lattin was later transferred to LSU Hospital, where he is currently being treated for a single gunshot wound to the shoulder. His wound is described as non-life-threatening.

Detectives have discovered that Lattin and a known suspect, 22-year-old Johnny L. Bell, were involved in an argument over a woman, when Bell allegedly produced a handgun and shot Lattin. Bell was taken into custody without incident a short time later at his home and authorities have seized the firearm they believe was used in this crime. Bell was booked into the Shreveport City Jail on one count of aggravated battery. He also had a warrant out for his arrest for one count of discharging a firearm in the city limits and he was booked on that charge, as well.
