The Shreveport Police Department is taking applications for the next Citizen's Police Academy, scheduled to begin February 2nd. The Academy is an action-packed and informative course where participants are given an inside view of the department. Some of the topics of discussion...patrol procedures, special response teams, narcotics and gang investigations and crime scene investigations. "Trainees" will be involved in several hands-on practical exercises on traffic stops, building searches and the proper use of firearms. They'll even have the opportunity to ride along with an officer to see first-hand a day in the life of a patrolman. Classes meet Thursday evenings from 6 to 9 at the Shreveport Fire and Police Regional Training Academy on Greenwood Road. Graduation is tentatively set for April 5th. You can pick up applications at the police department or online.
