[UPDATE]  The Caddo Coroner's Office has identified the man killed in last week's apartment fire in Shreveport as 31-year-old Antroious Kinsey.  The cause of the blaze has been determined to be unattended cooking.  Still no word on how the 7-year-old boy critically injured in the fire is doing.


[ORIGINAL STORY]  A man is dead and a 7-year-old boy critically injured after an apartment fire in Shreveport. 

The Shreveport Fire Department was called out to the Pines Apartments in the 8000 block of Line Avenue just before 2:20 this morning.

Crews arrived on scene in three minutes and found an upstairs apartment engulfed in heavy fire and smoke. Firefighters entered the apartment and found a seven-year-old boy, who was transported to University Medical Center in critical condition. An adult male was also found in the apartment.  He was pronounced dead at the.

A second alarm was called just after 2:30, since it appeared the fire might spread to an adjacent apartment building; however, fire crews worked quickly and brought the fire under control before 2:45.

The fire heavily damaged the involved apartment. The remaining seven apartment units in the building sustained some fire, smoke and water damage. Seven of the eight apartments were occupied in the building and all other occupants escaped without injury.

This is the sixth fire fatality in the city of Shreveport for 2013. The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation.
