A suspect wanted by authorities for shooting a man last month in Shreveport’s Allendale neighborhood is behind bars.

Detectives report 22 year old Demetrius Stewart, of the 100 block of Hamilton Street in Shreveport, surrendered himself to them at the Shreveport Police Complex yesterday afternoon. Stewart, who had a warrant outstanding for his arrest charging him with one count of aggravated second degree battery, was subsequently booked into the Shreveport City Jail. His bond had been set at $100,000.

Detectives believe Stewart shot 22 year old Sam Anderson in the early morning hours of January 1, 2012 during a dispute between the two men in the 1600 block of Milam Street. Anderson and Stewart are known to each other. Anderson was treated and later released from LSUHSC for several non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.
