Chris Callahan, the Baylor placekicker, was already having a bad play. His field goal attempt against Michigan State in the Cotton Bowl had just been blocked. The ball bounced directly to a Spartans player who started upfield and Callahan was in hot pursuit. And then things got a lot worse.

In what was undoubtedly the most devastating hit of the 2014 college bowl season, the 5 foot 9 inch, 180 pounder was leveled by a blindside block by MSU's Chris Laneaux. Callahan went airborne. After hitting the turf Callahan sat up for a moment, then fell backwards unconscious.

A woozy Chris was helped off the field and to the locker room. After the game he tweeted to worried family and friends, 'I am alive.'
