The final numbers aren't in yet, but preliminary estimates indicate one of the State Fair of Louisiana's better years.  Fair General Manager Chris Giordano says it was the weather, more than the negative news, that kept some people away.  He says it rained on opening day, which was dollar day...and it was incredibly cold and windy for a few days.  He says attendance won't eclipse last year's, but 2010 was an exceptional year.  Giordano adds that he's still "deeply hurt and emotionally drained" because of the kiddie ride accident that left a 4-year-old boy critically injured.  Tune in to Newsday PM with James Stanley from 5 to 6 this evening, where I'll chat with Giordano about that accident -- and the numerous drug arrests that happened the same day.
