Every time I scroll through my Facebook news feed, I see pictures of friends' babies who have been born recently, or expectant moms I know showing off their "baby bumps."

In fact, August is one of the most-popular months for newborn arrival in the U.S. (My daughter was born August 13th, and my brother's birthday is on the 21st.) So this is a good time for personal finance website WalletHub to take an in-depth look at 2016's Best & Worst States to Have a Baby.

The site compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across 17 key metrics, from Hospital Caesarean-delivery Charges, to Annual Average Infant-care Costs, to Number of Pediatricians Per Capita. It's not good news for the Bayou State....Louisiana ranked 2nd-worst on the list.

Here are some of our rankings, with 1 being the best and 25 being average:

47th - Infant-Mortality Rate
50th - Rate of Low Birth-Weight
50th - Number of Midwives & OB-GYNs per Capita
49th - Number of Pediatricians & Family Doctors per Capita
34th - Number of Child-Care Centers per Capita
50th - Rate of Preterm Births
43rd - Percentage of Nationally Accredited Child Care Centers

At the top of the list were Vermont, Maine, Connecticut, Minnesota and New Hampshire. Coming in below us was, as usual, Mississippi.
