On Sunday, 07/24/11 at approximately 12:25 a.m., members of the Shreveport Police Department's Uniformed Services Division responded to the 4000 block of Jewella Avenue in reference to a vehicle that was stolen with a 19 month old child still inside.

Officers quickly ascertained a description of the vehicle and child and broadcast the same.  A short time later, a report of a small child being on the side of the road at Madison Avenue and Laurel Street was received.

The parent was brought to the location and identified the child as her child that was in the vehicle.  As a precaution, the child was taken to LSUHSC where she was checked out.  The child was safe and unharmed.

The vehicle in question was located abandoned in the 1900 block of Patzman Street in Shreveport's Allendale neighborhood.  Based on surveillance evidence recovered at the scene, officers conducted a door to door canvas eventually locating and arresting the suspect, who was positively identified as the person who stole the vehicle.

Police arrested 21 year old Rantez Lewis of Shreveport and charged him with one count of aggravated kidnaping and one count of auto theft.  Lewis was booked into the Shreveport City Jail without incident.
