Just after 3:00 p.m. on February 6, 2012, a Caddo Parish school bus driver was taking kids home from Hamilton Terrace Learning Center when a large fight broke out among a group of children inside the bus. Recognizing she was right by the police department, the driver quickly pulled into the Patrol Desk parking lot and notified authorities there. Approximately ten officers responded to break up the fracas. The Shreveport Fire Department was called to the scene and they rendered aid to several participants who suffered minor injuries.

Based on witness accounts of the fray and evidence recovered at the scene, patrolmen charged 18 year old Melissa Winston with three counts of resisting an officer with force or violence, one count of simple battery, and one count of inciting a riot. Winston, of the 3000 block of Frederick Street in Shreveport, was booked into the Shreveport City Jail. Also booked into the Shreveport City Jail were 19 year old Malik Speed, of the 3500 block of Milam Street in Shreveport, charged with one count of resisting an officer, and 17 year old Marquis Lindsey, of the 2000 block of Vivian Street in Shreveport, charged with one count of simple battery. Officers arrested nine juveniles ranging in age from 14 to 16, including six males and three females, for a variety of misdemeanor charges ranging from simple battery to interference with an officer. All of the juveniles were issued juvenile summonses and released to concerned adults.

Juvenile detectives are investigating this incident in an effort to determine what exactly what precipitated the fight. Anyone with any information regarding this case is urged to call investigators at 318-673-7020 or Shreveport-Caddo Parish Crime Stoppers at 318-673-7373.
